Trustee Focus: Sean Murray
As a Trustee of Canadian Print Scholarships, Sean Murray brings a steady commitment to strengthening the printing industry by investing in people. From community-rooted publishing to board leadership and mentorship, Sean has built a career centered on thoughtful growth, trusted partnerships, and a belief that education keeps our sector resilient. His work reflects what this scholarship community stands for. Practical leadership, donor stewardship, and real opportunity for students preparing to contribute to print and graphic communications.
Celebrating Sean’s Leadership
Sean is President and CEO of Advocate Printing and Publishing, where he has spent decades guiding an organization that spans printing, publishing, and media. Based in Nova Scotia, he has also led related companies across Canada and the United States, staying close to how print serves communities through newspapers, magazines, and local information products. That long view gives him a clear understanding of how technology, customer needs, and talent development intersect in a modern production environment.
His leadership is recognized across business and print, including honours such as Canadian Print Leader of the Year and induction into the Atlantic CEO Hall of Fame. Alongside executive responsibilities, he has invested time in governance and mentorship through board roles and professional development, including executive education at Harvard Business School and the ICD.D designation. Those experiences shape how he approaches decision-making. With structure, accountability, and respect for the people doing the work.
In Their Own Words
The brightest and best young people are the future of our industry. We must invest in them if we plan to be here long term.
Supporting the Next Generation
For Sean, scholarships are not only financial support, they are a signal to students that the industry is paying attention. His involvement helps ensure Canadian Print Scholarships can recognize potential, reduce barriers, and connect emerging talent with a network of employers, educators, and leaders who want them to succeed. That support strengthens classrooms today and strengthens pressrooms, studios, and leadership teams tomorrow.
Inspiring Industry Involvement
Leaders like Sean help bring the print community together around a shared goal. Building a pipeline of skilled, curious, and committed graduates. By showing up as a Trustee, he encourages companies to give back, donors to see the lasting value of their contributions, and educators to keep aligning learning with real-world needs. The result is a stronger, more connected industry that can adapt and grow with confidence.
