From the classroom to collaborative industry forums, she has built a career focused on helping people develop relevant skills, confidence, and professional direction, all while strengthening the relationships that keep graphic communications moving forward.
Celebrating Reem’s Leadership
Reem serves at Toronto Metropolitan University within The Creative School as Interim Chair and Full Professor in Graphic Communications Management, following years of progressive academic leadership including roles as Associate Chair, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professor. Her path reflects a steady commitment to students and the industry they will join, supported by deep technical knowledge and a practical understanding of how media, print, and digital systems connect.
With a background that includes degrees in Computer Science and advanced study in Paper and Imaging Science and Engineering, she brings a valuable interdisciplinary lens to graphic communications. Reem’s expertise spans digital asset management, pre-media technologies, colour science, and the workflows that help organizations manage content with consistency and quality. As Founder and Director of the Lab of Excellence in Digital Asset Management, she has helped establish a research and education environment dedicated to advancing DAM knowledge and practice. Her teaching impact has also been recognized through a Dean’s Teaching Award, a reflection of the care she brings to mentorship and learning.
In Their Own Words
Industry and academia thrive when they move forward together. Academia shapes the next generation of leaders, while industry brings learning to life through real-world experience. When these two worlds align, they create opportunities that are greater than either could achieve alone. I am truly honoured to serve as a trustee of the Canadian Print Scholarship and to stand alongside inspiring leaders in supporting and empowering the future of our industry, for the strength and sustainability of both ecosystems.
Supporting the Next Generation
For Reem, scholarship support is a practical way to build stronger pathways into print and graphic communications careers. Her work with students through programming like the GCM Colloquium reflects her belief that learning is most powerful when it is connected to real professional conversations. As a Trustee, she helps champion opportunities that reduce barriers, recognize talent, and encourage students to see a long-term future in the industry, whether they pursue production, technology, leadership, or research-driven roles.
Inspiring Industry Involvement
Reem’s leadership also sends an important message to the broader print community, that students succeed best when educators, employers, suppliers, and donors work together. By bringing industry voices into academic spaces and highlighting the value of mentorship, she encourages organizations and individuals to contribute in ways that are meaningful and sustainable. That shared commitment strengthens classrooms today and workplaces tomorrow.
