Student Focus: Grayam Stenhouse
Canadian Print Scholarships is proud to recognize Grayam Stenhouse as a scholarship recipient this year. This award celebrates a student who is choosing a focused path in Graphic Communications and building practical skills that connect creativity, production, and the printing industry.
Celebrating Grayam’s Journey
Grayam is a student at Saskatchewan Polytechnic in Regina, studying Graphic Communications through the School of Creative Media, Arts and Sciences. He describes 2025 as a turning point, a year he committed to becoming a graphic designer with a clear interest in document design and photography. That interest grew from seeing beautifully organized PDFs, including editable text boxes, interactive images, and thoughtful annotation that made long, complex information easier to use.
Outside the classroom, he is also a writer who enjoys building story worlds for tabletop roleplaying games like Dungeons and Dragons. He is drawn to large scale projects, from multi-hundred page rulebooks to corporate documents that support yearly planning. Grayam’s path has also included a practical pivot, after starting a machinist course and later leaving it due to an allergy to cutting oils. Rather than slowing him down, that experience helped him refocus on work that still lets him make things with care, both physically and artistically, through design and visual communication.
In Their Own Words
Thank you for the scholarship! Every little bit helps since my living situation is difficult financially. My student loan doesn’t cover for everything, so this scholarship was especially important on lightening the load when it comes to the small payments I need to make after the year. I am excited to become a Graphic Designer as it lines up with my hobbies and general interests, specifically the creation of large scale documents such as PDFs, as i’m a writer for stories that have many visuals. Such as D&D, Tabletop rulebooks and story lore books. I like to create things, physically and artistically, as I used to be in the Machinist course a year ago, though sadly I had to drop that course due to finding out i’m allergic to cutting oils. (Can’t really cut metal if you’re allergic to the coolant, yaknow?) Though, overall i’m happy that I’ve chosen Graphic Communications. It fits with what I enjoy, and being granted a scholarship is absolutely amazing. Thank you, genuinely. – Grayam Stenhouse
Opening Doors for the Future
Scholarships reduce financial pressure so students can stay focused on learning, practice, and career planning. For Grayam, support like this helps cover the smaller costs that student loans do not always reach, which can make the difference between simply getting by and building momentum. As he continues his program and looks ahead to entry level opportunities, this recognition also signals to employers that he is serious about applying design skills to real world communication needs, including the kinds of production aware thinking that strengthens print and cross media work.
Inspiring the Next Generation
Grayam’s story is a reminder that there is no single path into the industry, and that determination matters as much as talent. Students who are curious about design, prepress, production, and visual storytelling can see in his goals a practical blend of creativity and purpose. Canadian Print Scholarships is grateful to donors and industry partners whose generosity helps emerging professionals pursue education with confidence and contribute to the future workforce.
