“Hey there! My name is Grace To, a first year student at Ryerson’s Graphic Communications Management (GCM) program. Thank you to all the generous donors of the Canadian Printing Industries Scholarship who help support students like myself’s education.
While I was researching university programs in grade 12, I found GCM’s website by pure luck. Entering the print industry had never crossed my mind before, despite my natural attraction to creative work and my immense affection for print and design.
Pinpointing where my interest in print started was when I first attended TCAF (the Toronto Comics Arts Festival). I was exposed to an ocean of creatives who used an array of printing processes from risograph to screenprint, on various substrates that evoked different emotions in me at first touch. That experience made me realize that I wanted to create cool stuff like that too, but I had no idea where to start until now.
I get butterflies in my stomach (in a good way) when I think of how much I have left to learn about this industry, and all of the innovative and inspirational printing peers I have yet to meet. Thank you again to all the donors for helping me get a taste of this new printing world.”
