The Canadian Printing Industries Scholarship Trust Fund would like to recognize leaders of the graphic communications industry for their long-standing dedication & commitment.
Donations made in honour of these individuals were invested for the long term to benefit students who are awarded scholarships each year based on predetermined criteria.
We wish to honour and recognize the following individuals:
John Kouwenhoven
Hemlock Printers
John was a founding partner of Hemlock Printers and a strong advocate for regional training in the print industry. He served at length on the BCPIA board and was known for his commitment to helping individuals achieve their personal best.
Peter Purcell
Unisource Canada
Peter established Inter-City Papers in Vancouver in 1984 and had a career in print that spanned 40 years, including an extended role as a Market Development Specialist. He is recognized as a dedicated leader, committed family man, inveterate golfer and the ultimate salesman.
Dick Blockberger
Broadway Printers
Dick was the third-generation President & CEO of Broadway Printers, a Director of the BCPIA and Canadian Graphic Arts Association, and Director & Chairman of the CPIA. He is recognized for his dedication to the industry with several awards.
Jack Hazeldine
Hazeldine Press
Jack was the President of Hazeldine Press and at various times held the position of President of the BCPIA and Chairman of the BCPIA. He was committed to industry training and education, serving for many years on the CPIA Scholarship Trust Fund Committee and was a key contributor to developing the BCIT Graphic Communications Technology Program. In 2003, he became the first Honourary Life Member of the BCPIA.
Bruce Brydon
Coast Paper
Bruce served as President & Chairman of the Board of Coast Paper and was known for his genuine engagement with staff, customers and suppliers. He was a NPTA Stanley O. Styles Award winner in 1999, recognizing his industry leadership, innovation, dedication and character.
Garry Baines
British Columbia Printing Industries Association
Garry was the Executive Director of the BCPIA from 1989 to 1995 and was the inspiration for the establishment of the organization’s student scholarships. His legacy of a sustained commitment to ongoing education initiatives has been an inspiration to many.
