2022-11-23/in News, Scholarships/by Editor

Canadian Print Scholarships is pleased to announce that the Canadian Printing Industries Scholarships awarded to students in the Graphic Communications Technology Management Program at BCIT have been named for the following British Columbia print industry leaders.

Rachel Cheung awarded the Gary Baines In Memoriam Scholarship

Garry was the Executive Director of the BCPIA from 1989 to 1995 and was the inspiration for the establishment of the organization’s student scholarships. His legacy of a sustained commitment to ongoing education initiatives has been an inspiration to many.

Tanner Hockey awarded the John Kouwenhoven In Memoriam Scholarship

John was a founding partner of Hemlock Printers and a strong advocate for regional training in the print industry. He served at length on the BCPIA board and was known for his commitment to helping individuals achieve their personal best.

Madison Mills awarded the Peter Purcell In Memoriam Scholarship

Peter established Inter-City Papers in Vancouver in 1984 and had a career in print that spanned 40 years, including an extended role as a Market Development Specialist. He is recognized as a dedicated leader, committed family man, inveterate golfer and the ultimate salesman.

Doug Climie, Vice-Chair of PrintForward and Scholarship Committee Chair mentioned, “PrintForward is committed to supporting the growth and progress of our industry in many ways, including this important recognition and scholarship support for Rachel, Tanner and Madison. We’re excited to see them continue their success in the BCIT program and launch their print careers very soon.”

“The students at the BCIT Graphic Communications program have been very lucky to have such great support from the industry. The In Memoriam Scholarships are not only a great help towards students’ tuition but also an encouragement for them to excel and become future leaders of this industry. On behalf of our students and faculty, I would like to thank PrintForward, Canadian Print Scholarships, and all those organizations and individuals who support this great cause. We appreciate your support and hope that we can contribute back.” said Masih Ferdosian, Program Head of Graphic Communications Technology Management at BCIT.

“The Canadian Print Scholarships board and its trustees are dedicated and committed to searching for creative ways to attract the brightest and best students to the graphic communications industry. The future of its ongoing success comes from developing these talented recipients for today and the years to come. We thank those named individuals who contributed to the success of the industry.”, added Gunther Sturhahn, Board Trustee at Canadian Print Scholarships.
